High tide without a hangover: Board game

Climate change increases the risk of floods and drought. To reduce the risk of flooding, various target groups must make efforts. While playing, the participants discover how they can tackle flood risks.

Protect the merged municipalities of Watervendegem and Broekmonde as best as possible against flooding. That is the task of the board game. The players will work in groups to solve as many flooding problems as possible in ten years.

The game aims to make players better familiar with the possible solutions to reduce the risks of flooding. The players experience that flood risk management is a shared responsibility of the government and target groups.

Climate change is a theme that appeals to young people. On the other hand, a study commissioned by the Flemish government in 2017 shows that young people in particular are less aware of the flood risk.

The educational application can introduce young people to this problem in a classroom setting. The game is suitable for secondary education from the fourth year and higher education.
