Climate problem: Suitcase Zelzate

The news increasingly talks about temperature records, melting ice caps and glaciers, drought, floods, etc. Do students know what role climate change plays in this? What does the future of our planet look like according to scientific models? Many consequences of climate change sometimes seem far-fetched, but is that true?

Students conduct experiments themselves in which they discover the causes of climate change. They distinguish between natural and human causes of climate change and consider their consequences, both globally and regionally.

The suitcase contains material to carry out a number of experiments.

  • Test 1: impact of climate change on oceans.
  • Test 2: impact of ocean acidification on coral reefs.
  • Test 3: effect of increase in CO₂ on temperature.
  • Test 4: effect of melting sea ice and land ice on sea level rise.
  • Test 5: the effect of the disappearance of snow fields on the albedo effect and air temperature.
